The new beginning promises growth, innovation, and an even stronger commitment to delivering cutting-edge genetic solutions for aquaculture, they said

Benchmark Genetics just announced a major milestone in their journey: from the first day of April, the company is part of international Novo Holdings’ investment portfolio. For them, this marks the beginning of a new era that promises growth, innovation, and an even stronger commitment to delivering cutting-edge genetic solutions for aquaculture. Benchmark Genetics steps out of Benchmark Holdings and becomes an independent, private company headquartered in Bergen, Norway.

A key highlight of this transition is that Benchmark Genetics now wholly owns their advanced land-based breeding center in Salten, Norway. The company will continue to be branded as Benchmark Genetics, and their product portfolio will be continued, they explained.

“At Benchmark Genetics, we believe in the power of genetics to transform aquaculture. With the support of Novo Holdings, we are more determined than ever to bring value to our customers and contribute to a sustainable aquaculture industry,” they said.

For the global aquaculture industry, this change means that with Novo Holdings as the new owner, they are set to accelerate their efforts to develop high-performing, sustainable genetics for salmon, shrimp, and other aquaculture species.

The Updated Focuses

According to the members of the company, their focus will be now on, in the first place, enhancing their existing breeding programs to improve production performance and sustainability. Second of all, they will work in expanding into new markets and species, harnessing the company’s leading expertise and technologies to enhance seafood production globally.

For them, investing in production and nucleus to ensure bio secure and reliable supply for their customers, will the third aspect to focus on; also, in expanding their provision of genetic and genotyping services to help realize the benefit of genetic improvements for producers worldwide.

Finally, the new Benchmark Genetics will work in strengthening partnerships with industry leaders, research institutions, and producers; and in driving innovation in genomics, genotyping, and reproductive biotechnology.

Reinforcement of Operational Capacities

As we said, a key highlight of this transition is that Benchmark Genetics now wholly owns our advanced land-based breeding center in Salten, Norway. This move will further strengthen the operational capabilities and continue to secure a year-round supply of high-quality eggs for the customers of Benchmark Genetics.

Novo Holdings is a world-leading life science investor with a strong track record of supporting sustainable food production. Their backing provides long-term financial stability, allowing us to continue investing in solutions that benefit aquaculture producers worldwide.

Leader in Aquaculture Genetics

Benchmark Genetics is a leader in aquaculture genetics, focusing on salmon and shrimp genetics with four in-house breeding programs. With experience from over 40 applied breeding programs, and 30 species, across 16 countries, we provide genetic services for various species worldwide.

Their breeding centers are in Norway, Iceland, Chile, the United States (US), and Colombia. According to them, they prioritize innovation through modern breeding technologies like QTL and Genomic Selection while staying customer-focused through long-standing partnerships. “Our technical support ensures that our customers can maximize the potential of our genetics. The company offers Genotyping services and tools for a wide range of aquatic species at competitive prices. Contact us today for an offer,” they highlight.

Salmon City in Bergen

The Salmon City event, held on 3 April in Bergen, was attended by Benchmark Genetics, showing itself in public for the first time as an independent company. Bergen is one of the world’s leading aquaculture centers, and Salmon City offered a unique insight into how innovation and research are driving the industry.

“Our salmon roe is the result of 50 years of selection, precision and innovation for the aquaculture industry. Through advanced breeding and modern biotechnology, we offer a solid genetic base of high quality, year-round production,” said from Benchmark Genetics.
