In a remarkable stride towards sustainable aquaculture, Skretting Canada East has made waves by developing cutting-edge technology and technical expertise to produce a groundbreaking 41% fat salmon feed. The first in North America to do so. This achievement promises to bring a host of benefits to the Canadian aquaculture industry, with significant positive impacts on fish growth and feed efficiency.
The latest development centers on the increased fat content of the salmon feed, which amplifies the energy levels provided to the fish. This energy boost translates to heightened growth potential, enabling salmon to thrive and reach their full potential more efficiently. Not only does this innovative feed bolster the health and size of the salmon, but it also holds promising implications for the industry’s environmental footprint and decreasing the need for marine ingredients.
Fish farmers maximize their yields
By enhancing the efficiency of feed utilization, this novel 41% fat salmon feed provides more energy per serving, allowing less feed needed to get fish to harvest size. As a result, fish farmers can maximize their yields while minimizing waste, making the process not only more cost-effective but also more sustainable.
From Skretting Canada East assures its commitment to advancing aquaculture technology showcases their dedication to responsible practices and innovation. “This breakthrough marks a significant step forward in the industry’s pursuit of sustainable and efficient fish farming methods. As this technology continues to be implemented on a broader scale, it brings hope for a more prosperous, and environmentally conscious, future for aquaculture,” they say.
News in China
In the other hand, and some weeks before, the Chinese branch of the company announced that Taico China signed an energy management contract (EMC) with Huaxu New Energy, a leading new energy company in South China. After the completion of the project together, the carbon dioxide emissions of Taico’s Kaiting Zhuhai factory will be reduced by more than 1,000 tons/year.
It is equipped with 2,699 solar panels with a capacity of 1.62 megawatts and an estimated annual average power generation of 1.77 million kilowatt hours, accounting for more than 10% of annual electricity consumption.
According to the calculation coefficient of Taigao Group, after the project is completed and put into use, it can reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 1,035 tons per year, which will reduce Taigao‘s global emissions in 2022 by 0.3%.
“This project will help fulfill the commitment to reduce absolute CO2 emissions by 30% under Scope 1 and Scope 2 of the Science Based Targets Initiative and increase the Group’s use of renewable energy.”
From the company, they assure that, “as a company with the mission of ‘nurturing the future’, we have always been committed to the sustainable development of the feed industry and integrated the concept and development strategies of sustainable development into our daily business activities.”
“We have invested a lot of energy in animal nutrition and product innovation, technology investment, raw material formulation, etc., and this cooperation with Huaxu also reflects our efforts in the field of new energy and energy conservation and emission reduction.”
“Through this cooperation, we learned that there is so much profound knowledge and advanced technology in feed production. It can be produced in a sustainable way without harming the environment, which really subverts our inherent understanding of the feed industry.”
The solar project of Taigosikaitin Zhuhai factory was officially launched in September 2023, and the entire project is expected to last four months.
