Andreas Mintsios, the new Managing Director for the Greek office of the global leader in technologically advanced aquatic solutions for fish tracking and aquaculture

The global leader Innovasea, specialist in technologically advanced aquatic solutions for fish tracking and aquaculture, recently announced two upgrades to its NexTrak system: the Acoustic Release (AR) receiver and Increased Residency (IR) Coding. Through this innovation, researchers can confidently deploy receiver(s), log data, and easily and safely recover their equipment from even the harshest study environments.

According to them, the innovative NexTrak AR receiver combines the world’s most advanced acoustic telemetry system with acoustic release (AR) capabilities. Researchers can now enjoy dependable, diver-free retrieval of their NexTrak gear and mooring equipment. This, combined with the system’s proven performance – 40% greater range and 2x as many detections – offers a complete solution for tracking and retrieval.

“By integrating AR capabilities to our high-performing NexTrak line, we’ve transformed what can be a costly and potentially hazardous process,” said Jean Quirion, Vice President of Research and Development at Innovasea. “We want to empower researchers to explore more remote, extreme areas, with the utmost confidence that they can retrieve their data and equipment.”

Deploying the New NexTrak AR Receiver

On the other hand, Innovasea’s IR Coding is a new tag coding that allows for significantly improved performance in high residency scenarios. Now, researchers can expect up to 5x more detections, due to fewer tag collisions in densely tagged areas. The tag upgrade will help elevate specific projects, including those dealing with fast-moving species, fish congregation sites, and fine-scale positioning studies.

A Key Role in the Strategic Development and Execution of the Company

Some days after the announcement, Innovasea revealed the hiring of Andreas Mintsios as the new Managing Director for the Mediterranean. Working out of Innovasea’s dedicated office in Greece, Mintsios will play a key role in the strategic development and execution of Innovasea’s aquaculture operations across the Mediterranean region.

“Mintsios’s vast background and wealth of leadership experience made him the ideal candidate for this role,” said Innovasea VP Marc Turano. “His problem-solving and relationship-building uniquely positions him to effectively support our current efforts and introduce new solutions that meet the needs of this strategically important area.”

Mintsios comes to Innovasea from Thraki, where he served as Managing Director. Additionally, he brings nearly two decades of aquaculture experience, having previously worked at HELPA, first overseeing their partial RAS (PRAS) eel farming operations before helping the company transition to sturgeon.

With the launch of their sturgeon farm, Mintsios played a key role in creating Greece’s first successful farmed caviar operation in the modern era.

“I’m excited to return to aquaculture and proud to be part of a wonderful team committed to advancing and improving this industry,” explained Mintsios. “Aquaculture offers the unique opportunity to challenge oneself and find creative solutions to complex problems.”

In his new role, Mintsios will work closely with farms in the Mediterranean region to better understand their challenges and explore how Innovasea can help them unlock innovative, bespoke solutions. Mintsios will replace Diogo Thomaz, who will be transitioning from this position to focus on other key initiatives at Innovasea.

“Our goal is to deliver farmers the tools, solutions, and data that will allow them to leverage their own skills and expertise better,” added Mintsios. “By combining cutting-edge technology with industry know-how, we’ll be able to help farm operators create more efficient, effective operations. Furthermore, I am also excited to continue Innovasea’s legacy on R&D, by partnering with universities and research institutions in the region who share our vision for sustainable aquaculture.”

Mintsios received a degree in civil engineering from Democritus University of Thrace and later earned his MBA from the University of Strathclyde.
