European sea bass algorithm is scheduled for release later this year.

The global leader in technologically advanced aquatic solutions for aquaculture and fish tracking Innovasea recently announced the first commercially available seabream algorithm for biomass estimation. This algorithm, part of Innovasea’s AI-powered biomass solution, BiomassPro, was rigorously tested and proven to deliver over 95% accuracy in real-time with gilthead seabream weight estimations for Aquafrais Cannes.

Now, Innovasea’s BiomassPro supports six species, Atlantic salmon, cobia, gilthead seabream, king salmon, red snapper and yellowtail. And a European sea bass algorithm is scheduled for release later this year.

Innovasea’s BiomassPro features a fully automated, lightweight (7.5 kg) camera that is easy to deploy and move between pens. Using an advanced algorithm, it analyzes fish stocks and autonomously reports precise biomass estimates to an intuitive dashboard, eliminating the need for manual sampling.

Regarding the launching, Rafael Cordero, Innovasea VP, assured: “We are excited to expand our multi-species offering and bring the first gilthead seabream biomass solution to market. Our compact, portable solution is uniquely suited to meet the demands of seabream farmers who are overseeing numerous pens and require accurate, efficient biomass estimation across their operations.”

The Aquafrais Cannes Case

Located off the coast of France, Aquafrais Cannes has been a leader in French aquaculture for over 35 years, advancing sustainable methods for growing high-quality seabream and sea bass. The company operates more than 150 offshore pens. With Innovasea’s BiomassPro solution, camera setup takes just five minutes and requires only a single person to carry it out. Previously, this setup process involved four workers and lasted over half an hour at each location.

Real-time data, tracked in the BiomassPro dashboard, lets Aquafrais Cannes improve growth performance through better monitoring, optimize feed costs with more accurate feed rations, streamline workforce efficiency, and improve fish welfare through non-intrusive sampling.

“Thanks to BiomassPro, we get more precise estimates in less time,” confirmed Jérôme Hémar, General Manager at Aquafrais. “Now, we can better predict sales and reassign our lean team from biomass calculations to other vital farm tasks.”

Centerpiece of the Solution

BiomassPro is an AI-powered solution that estimates the size and weight of fish stocks to help optimize production and reduce feeding costs. It also provides accurate growth projections to improve resource planning and sales forecasting and ultimately boost revenues. The centerpiece of the solution is Innovasea’s groundbreaking biomass camera, which combines stereoscopic imaging with artificial intelligence technology inside a rugged enclosure.

The lightweight, easy-to-move camera collects and processes data and delivers it to the BiomassPro dashboard. All the data is presented in a clean, simple dashboard on your laptop. Current and historical data are also compiled into in-depth reports that give operators a complete overview of growth performance to enable data-driven decision making.

The Alliance

Fueled by leading-edge technology and a passion for research and development, Innovasea assures they are revolutionizing aquaculture and advancing the science of fish tracking to make the oceans and freshwater ecosystems sustainable for future generations. The company has more than 275 employees worldwide.

They provide full end-to-end solutions for fish farming and aquatic species research – including quality equipment that’s efficient and built to last, expert consulting services, and innovative platforms and products that deliver unrivaled data, information, and insights.

For its part, the established for more than 35 years in French Riviera, Aquafrais Cannes is proud of their entirely French production chain. They raise their sea bass and sea bream in the open sea, in Cannes, with low-density cages and they feed them with natural food, which gives them a great taste. According to them, the use of artisanal methods and the work at the heart of the bay of Cannes, provide to their fish with exceptional organoleptic qualities, “praised by the experts”. An amazing supply chain is mobilized every day to deliver ultra-fresh fish everywhere in France within a day.
