Aquaculture Magazine reports:
Bastiaan van Tilburg, new CEO of Skretting
Skretting launched AmiNova, a new feed formulation concept that allows even more precise nutrition, resulting in better utilization, higher efficiency, and lower nutrient release to the environment. According to them, with AmiNova they are introducing a new way of formulating, based on an ideal digestible amino acid profile. By evaluating the total amino acid level that is effectively ingested by the fish and removing the unnecessary excess, the nutritional needs of fish are met with increased precision and efficiency.
“R&D results have shown that, with AmiNova, the fish are able to retain nutrients in a more efficient way, while maintaining performance. Our trials with salmon and trout have shown a significant reduction in nitrogen discharge into the farm environment,” says Ramón Fontanillas, Principal Researcher Shrimp and Warm Water Species Nutrition in Skretting Aquaculture Innovation.

It took Skretting three years to develop AmiNova. “At Skretting we have a long history of groundbreaking innovation. Concepts like MicroBalance, N3 and FLX allowed us to reduce the dependency on fish oil and fish meal in our feed formulations. We have also launched Infinity, a salmon feed completely free of marine raw materials. Once ingredient flexibility was achieved, it was natural to focus on precision nutrition to reduce emissions. Therefore, AmiNova represents the next natural step in this journey. We are very excited to introduce it to our customers and continue supporting sustainable aquaculture practices,” says Alex Obach, Innovation Director at Skretting.
The first AmiNova-formulated feed will be available in the Chilean salmonid market in Q3 2024, with more species and countries to follow in 2025.
A long history of pioneering solutions
Aquaculture has an essential role in meeting the demands of a growing population, while reducing the pressure on the planet’s resources. Skretting has a long history of pioneering solutions to support this ambition. In the last decade, we have successfully reduced the dependency on marine raw materials in our feed formulations, while exploring new ways to achieve higher nutritional efficiency and improve the animal’s resource utilization.
New faces among leadership
A few days ago, the new CEO of Skretting, Bastiaan van Tilburg, officially joined the Skretting family. Succeeding Therese Log Bergjord, van Tilburg started his new role on June 1, arriving from their sister company Trouw Nutrition, where he was Managing Director for Europe and Central Asia.
“I am very excited to join the world class team at Skretting. Over the past weeks I’ve had the opportunity to meet many talented and experienced people, visit our amazing innovation facilities in Norway, and learn from our customers about the biggest challenges they are facing today. It’s my ambition to build on the strong foundations laid by Therese Log Bergjord, to make an even bigger impact in helping our customers solve those challenges,” said van Tilburg.
According to the company, their new CEO brings both relevant experience and fresh perspectives to Skretting. “He has a proven track record of deep commitment to sustainable growth through innovation,” they said. Before joining Nutreco five and a half years ago, he worked in various commercial and operational leadership roles at SHV daughter company Makro in Brazil. Prior to joining Makro, he worked at Royal Dutch Shell for four years.
“In 2023, Skretting contributed to 26 million healthy seafood meals every day, around the globe. We need to grow this number to more than 40 million meals to match the project population of 10 billion by 2050, while reducing our footprint significantly. Through our great people, sustainable innovations and strong partnerships, I am convinced that we will achieve our mission of feeding the future, together,” he added.
At the same time, they also welcomed Rob Binnekamp as the new Managing Director Trouw Nutrition & Skretting Middle East and Africa. Binnekamp succeeds Pieter Bastiaanssen, who will be taking on Bastiaan’s former role. With his wealth of experience and expertise, Rob is an exemplary leader who is strongly committed to innovation and success.
