Aker QRILL Company, a producer and supplier of krill meal and krill oil—innovative ingredients with unique nutritional properties—has announced its membership in the Sustainable Shrimp Partnership (SSP), the leading alliance of producers and companies committed to the sustainable and responsible development of the shrimp industry.

Aker QRILL Company’s incorporation into SSP reflects the company’s commitment to innovation, sustainability, and collaboration across the shrimp value chain. Through this membership, the company aims to strengthen its presence in Ecuador while actively contributing to the continued development of an increasingly efficient, transparent, and sustainable shrimp industry.

As a supplier of innovative marine ingredients for aquaculture nutrition, Aker QRILL Company shares SSP’s vision of promoting responsible practices that enhance the industry’s competitiveness while creating value for producers, consumers, and local communities.

“We are very pleased to become part of this organization. Although we have collaborated on several initiatives in the past and have closely followed the important work SSP has carried out to strengthen Ecuador’s shrimp industry, we are excited to officially join this initiative and take on a more active role both within SSP and across the industry as a whole,” said Webjørn Barstad, CEO of Aker QRILL Company.

“We want to contribute our expertise, knowledge, and innovative capabilities to support the sustainable growth of the industry. We are delighted to join SSP and to actively participate in the various activities and initiatives it promotes for the benefit of the sector,” added Xavier Zurita, Commercial Manager Ecuador at Aker QRILL Company.

As part of this new stage of collaboration, Aker QRILL Company will participate in the technical, educational, and promotional activities led by SSP, contributing to knowledge exchange and the advancement of best practices throughout Ecuador’s shrimp industry.

This commitment to knowledge exchange was recently reflected in Aker QRILL Company’s participation in SustainED 2026, held on July 29 and organized by the Sustainable Shrimp Partnership (SSP) and the National Chamber of Aquaculture (CNA). Xavier Zurita, Commercial Manager Ecuador at Aker QRILL Company, participated as a featured speaker in the event “Decisions that drive better results: Nutrition, ingredients, and new solutions for more efficient shrimp production,” where he presented “Alternative marine ingredients in the new normality.”

His presentation addressed the role of alternative marine ingredients in building more resilient supply chains and enabling more efficient and sustainable shrimp production. The event brought together key stakeholders and customers from Ecuador’s shrimp industry, reinforcing Aker QRILL Company’s contribution to the conversation on the future of sustainable aquaculture.

The company also reaffirms its commitment to providing Ecuadorian shrimp producers with innovative and sustainable nutritional ingredients designed to support animal health, production efficiency, and the sustainability of modern aquaculture.

Pamela Nath, Director of SSP, added: “We are delighted to welcome Aker QRILL Company to SSP. Their expertise in marine ingredients will bring new ideas and knowledge that will enrich the discussions we foster with our members, helping us continue to identify opportunities to strengthen the sustainability of shrimp aquaculture.”
