By The Shrimp Masterclass 2025
With an attentive, engaged, and motivated audience, The Shrimp Masterclass 2025 reaffirmed in Miami that shared knowledge is the driving force shaping the future of the global shrimp industry.
The event took place at the iconic James L. Knight Center in Miami, bringing together professionals, researchers, new generations of specialists, innovators from other industries interested in applying their expertise to aquaculture, and entrepreneurs from the shrimp sector representing Belize, Norway, India, Portugal, the United States, Canada, Ecuador, Peru, Mexico, Spain, Central America, and other countries.
This diversity positioned the Masterclass as one of the most relevant spaces for learning, dialogue, and collaboration within the global shrimp industry.
This year’s edition was proudly supported by three Gold Sponsors —Gluna Shrimp, Kampi, and Sun Shrimp Farm— and nine Silver Sponsors: Skretting, Expana, Prilabsa, Empacreci, Manta Bay, Laitram Machinery, Apolo Abogados, Viaxperta, and Biobac, alongside Media Partners Panorama Acuícola and Aquaculture Magazine.
In a context where the shrimp industry continues to expand globally, The Shrimp Masterclass 2025 positioned itself as a key meeting point for the advancement and renewal of knowledge across the shrimp value chain, addressing topics such as production, processing, artificial intelligence, data management, nutrition, markets, and genetics, in addition to the core pillars of the industry: hatcheries, farms, processing plants, and exports. Across three intensive days, the event fostered reflection and discussion that deepened participants’ understanding of an industry driven by science, innovation, and the people who shape it every day.
The first day featured presentations focused on sustainability, traceability, and the social impact of the industry on surrounding communities. Participants shared experiences on how responsible production and best practices can generate local development and contribute to a more balanced and sustainable future.
The day concluded with a networking session, creating a space that went beyond business to strengthen connections among producers, researchers, entrepreneurs, and industry leaders, generating new synergies and collaborations that enrich the shrimp value chain.
The second day offered a comprehensive agenda on the global value chain, with presentations covering genetics, nutrition, market trends, global production analysis, identification of key industry players, processing, and seafood marketing.
This day also addressed the regulatory landscape, emphasizing the importance of staying up to date with international requirements and understanding how evolving regulations impact the competitiveness and sustainability of the sector.
Among the featured speakers were Gabriel Luna, Director of The Shrimp Masterclass and Founder of the Global Shrimp Council; Ángel Rubio, Economist at Expana; Willem van der Pijl, Founder of Shrimp Insights and The Global Shrimp Forum; Dr. Manoj Sharma from India, shrimp farming expert; João Rocha, Geneticist; Eduardo Arosemena, specialist in feed and data; and Emily de Sousa, seafood marketing expert, among others.
The day concluded with the presentation of the Global Shrimp Council, an initiative led by Gabriel Luna aimed at strengthening international cooperation, promoting sustainability, and building a shared narrative that highlights the social, economic, and human value of shrimp worldwide. This session provided an inspiring conclusion to a day dedicated to science, innovation, and the shared purpose of advancing an industry that continues to evolve to deliver the world a high-quality, nutritious, and socially impactful protein.
The third day brought the classroom to life with a hands-on experience. Thanks to Gold Sponsor Sun Shrimp Farm, participants visited their facilities in South Florida, witnessing firsthand how the concepts discussed during the conference are applied in real-world operations.
Sun Shrimp stands as a model of resilience and innovation, having successfully reinvented itself after facing climatic challenges while strengthening its leadership in SPF broodstock, genetic development, and fresh shrimp production in the United States.
This visit offered the perfect conclusion to the event—an experience where theory, practice, and inspiration came together to give meaning to learning.
This edition of The Shrimp Masterclass delivered not only technical knowledge across the shrimp value chain but also inspiration and purpose. Participants returned to their home countries with a renewed perspective on the industry’s role in global food security and its capacity to create positive social and economic impact in communities around the world.
In the words of Gabriel Luna, passionate advocate of the industry and expert in data, pricing, exports, and global production,
“The shrimp industry is not just about the product; it’s about people—those who, in one way or another, are part of this chain and whose lives are transformed by it.”
