In In less than a month, the aquaculture innovation ecosystem of Latin America and Europe will meet again in Chile to participate in the International Conference on Innovation in Aquaculture, InnAqua 2025.

From September 2nd to 4th, Los Lagos region will bring together entrepreneurs, students, academics, technicians, professionals and executives from companies and institutions in the public and private sectors, both Chilean and foreign, interested in collaborative innovation in the aquaculture sector.

Organized by the Chilean Aquaculture Innovation Club and its partners, InnAqua will feature 25 speakers who will address, in nine thematic panels, topics such as sustainability in aquaculture, renewable energy, energy efficiency, carbon footprint reduction, decarbonization, circular economy, innovation, and shared social value. It will also include a poster session and an exhibition with 25 stands from companies that are applying innovation in the development of their products and services. The activities will be divided between the Empormontt City-Port Linkage Center in Puerto Montt and the Enjoy Hotel Conference Center in Puerto Varas.

Adolfo Alvial, executive director of the Aquaculture Innovation Club and general coordinator of InnAqua 2025, highlights that this third edition of the conference has attracted great interest, both nationally and internationally, and already has the solid commitment of the main salmonid producers and suppliers in the sector, as well as aquaculture associations and various public agencies.

“For us, it is very gratifying to have the participation and support of leading companies in the industry, such as Salmofood, which is once again backing us, as well as the salmon farming companies AquaChile, Mowi Chile, Blumar and Cermaq Chile, which have been a very important source of support and encouragement in this challenge,” he says.

In this regard, Sady Delgado, general manager of AquaChile, explains that “InnAqua is an important opportunity to share experiences and advance a common vision for the future of aquaculture. At AquaChile, we are convinced that innovation is a concrete tool for improving the efficiency of our operations, reducing our impact, and contributing to a more sustainable industry. Spaces like this allow for dialogue between industry players, learning about solutions that are already being applied in other sectors, and reinforcing our commitment to world-class aquaculture and salmon farming.”

For his part, the general manager of Cermaq Chile, Joachim Wessel, maintains that his company “firmly believes that the future of the industry is built on knowledge, technology, and, above all, joint work. That is why we are happy to participate in InnAqua 2025, the leading aquaculture innovation event in Latin America. This conference, promoted by regional and local authorities, brings together the main players in the sector and promotes collaboration between companies, entrepreneurs, and public and private institutions, with a common goal: to move towards more sustainable, innovative, and collaborative aquaculture.”

International Impact

ProChile, Los Lagos Regional Government, Puerto Montt Innovation Plan and the Municipality of Puerto Montt, among other public bodies, have also joined InnAqua 2025, demonstrating with their support the importance they attach to this activity, which has managed to cross the country’s borders.

“I have just returned from a trip where I was able to see the interest in participating in InnAqua on the part of institutions and various personalities in Spain and other countries in Europe, Asia, and Africa who attended the AquaFuture congress. I also saw a positive reception in Japan, where we met with producers, suppliers, and fishing and aquaculture organizations, as well as the main Japanese companies involved in this activity, some of which are present in Chile,” explains Adolfo Alvial.

“All this international interest has had a local impact that has motivated not only the salmon industry, but also the emerging aquaculture industry in the north and center of the country, as well as other Latin American nations, including Argentina, Brazil, Peru, Ecuador, Colombia and Mexico, along with the United States and Canada,” he points out.

The general coordinator of InnAqua 2025 extended an invitation to both the local public and foreign delegations to register soon. He states that “more and more people recognize innovation as a fundamental tool for achieving more competitive and sustainable aquaculture; therefore, our attendance projections for this third edition are very high.”
