The Western Indian Ocean Marine Protected Areas Professional Certification Program (WIO-COMPAS) is pleased to announce that applications are open for Level 1 and Level 2 certification assessments in French. The combined event, organized by WIOMSA and VARUNA, will take place on 11-15 May 2026, in Madagascar.
Level 2 certification is open to marine protected area professionals (MPA) from the WIO region who are responsible for management, supervisory and administrative tasks within MPAs (MPA manager, assistant manager, site manager, warden or section ranger) while Level 1 certification targets MPA rangers or marine field operators who are tasked with the practical day to day management of MPAs and hold basic administrative responsibilities.
The application deadline is 27th February 2026
