When completed, the farm will have a production capacity of 10,000 tons of salmon annually

The Norwegian technology company Normex has signed a significant supply contract with Mirae Aquafarm – an innovative, land-based salmon farming facility in Pohang on South Korea’s east coast. The contract includes the delivery and installation of the Razone water treatment system throughout the facility. Once completed, the farm will have a production capacity of 10,000 tons of salmon annually.

The agreement marks an important breakthrough for Normex in the Asian market and represents the company’s first major venture in the region. “This is a strategic milestone for us. It confirms the international relevance of our technology,” said the CEO of Normex, Stig Ove Johansen.

In addition to the core delivery, Normex will also supply solutions for wastewater, intake water, and pre-harvest purification (purge). “The market is looking for solutions that combine sustainability, biosecurity, and operational efficiency. Razone directly meets these demands. On top of that, the system can be remotely monitored, giving us a strong platform for further international growth,” added Johansen.

Strategic Market Entry in South Korea

The South Korean venture is a direct result of Normex’s participation in Innovation Norway’s Global Growth program – a targeted initiative that has provided the company with valuable market insight and access to key decision-makers in the region.

As part of its long-term strategy, Normex has also entered a partnership with Korean company, which will serve as the local representative and technical support partner.

According to Johansen, “with Aquapro on board, we’re strengthening our presence in Southeast Asia. We’ve already launched new projects together and see significant potential for further expansion in the region.”

The Razone Water Treatment System

Razone is a high-tech water treatment system developed specifically for RAS-based aquaculture facilities. The system removes microparticles, reduces microbiological load, and ensures consistent water clarity – enabling stable production conditions, good fish health, and efficient biomass utilization with reduced risk.

Suhyung Cho, Mirae Aquafarm CEO, looks forward to the collaboration: “We’ve spent considerable time finding the right partners, and we look forward to working with Normex on this ambitious project.”

New Sales Manager

Weeks before the arrival of the news, Normex appointed Lars Christian Vik as new Sales Manager. Vik brings with him around 20 years of experience in sales, technical service, and project management, with a strong focus on the maritime industry and aquaculture. His extensive background in marine technology, engineering, and commercial operations will be a valuable asset as we continue to expand and innovate.

“I’m excited to take on new challenges at Normex and contribute to the development of forward-looking and sustainable solutions for aquaculture and the maritime industry,” said Vik.

A results-oriented professional, Vik has developed deep expertise in commissioning, service, mechanical systems, and sales leadership. His solid technical insight and strong leadership capabilities make him particularly effective in complex and fast-paced environments where innovation and customer satisfaction are key.

He joins the company from Kongsberg Maritime, where he held the position of Sales Manager Offshore Integration & Energy, responsible for aftermarket sales. Prior to this, he held key roles at Atlantic Sapphire as a Fish Movement Design Engineer, and at Cflow Fish Handling as Warranty Coordinator and Supervisor for Mechanics and Hydraulics. He also brings long-standing field experience from maritime service and commissioning roles at Rolls-Royce Marine, Skrogenes Industriservice, and STX OSV (now VARD).

With his broad experience spanning both technical and commercial roles in the aquaculture and maritime sectors, Vik was set to play an important part in advancing Normex’s solutions for water treatment and disinfection, the company in a press release. “His contributions will support both land-based and maritime industries as we continue to deliver innovative and sustainable technologies.”
