Company signs memorandum of understanding with Faculty of Agriculture, University of North Sumatra

Regal Springs Indonesia directives recognized that the exhibition Asian-Pacific Aquaculture 2024 (APA24) presented a crucial opportunity for Indonesia to enhance investments in the fisheries sector. According to the company, Regal Springs Indonesia, as one of the world’s largest producers of tilapia, utilized this platform to showcase its commitment to sustainable and innovative aquaculture practices.

In support of the government’s efforts to drive economic growth through aquaculture, Regal Springs Indonesia participated in APA24 held in Surabaya between 3 and 5 July. At the event, Regal Springs Indonesia exhibited its premium products, including its extensive by-product portfolio, and innovations in environmentally friendly tilapia farming at one of the APA24 stands.

Rudolf Hoeffelman, President Director of Regal Springs Indonesia, stated, “We are enthusiastic about participating in the Asian-Pacific Aquaculture 2024. This is an exceptional opportunity to share our experiences and knowledge in sustainable aquaculture and learn from other industry leaders.”

“We are committed to continuous innovation and supporting the sustainable growth of the aquaculture industry in the Asia-Pacific region,” he added.

Platform for all the professionals

Indonesian Vice President Ma’ruf Amin expressed appreciation for hosting APA 2024 in Indonesia during the opening ceremony. APA 2024 serves as a platform for investors, researchers, academics, and industry stakeholders in fisheries cultivation, both domestic and international.

“Through this meeting, we aim to achieve real synergy and collaboration between the government, business stakeholders, and academia to generate breakthroughs in enhancing productivity and sustainability in Indonesia’s aquaculture sector, thereby strengthening Indonesia’s position as a leading global fisheries producer,” he noted.

Company efforts

Regal Springs Indonesia’s efforts to support sustainable aquaculture include a strong commitment to the Blue Food Movement, ambitious strategies for by-products to promote circular economy practices, continuous efforts to maximize positive impacts on society through social and community programs such as the “Love Fish Campaign” (Gerakan Memasyarakatkan Makan Ikan – Gemarikan), active and innovative collaborations with universities and educational institutions, as well as initiatives in ecotourism and other environmental and social endeavors.

Synergistic cooperation with the USU

Some weeks before the event, and in an increasing synergistic cooperation, Regal Springs Indonesia and USU’s Faculty of Agriculture sign a Memorandum of Understanding. The members of the company emphasized its commitment to sustainable fisheries development and cultivation. One of the strategic steps taken is to open access to cooperation and collaboration with universities in Indonesia.

The company realized this commitment through the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with the Faculty of Agriculture, University of North Sumatra (USU) which focuses on developing education, research and community service.

The signatories were represented by President Director Regal Springs Indonesia, Rudolf Hoeffelman, with Deputy Dean 3 for Cooperation, Research and Service, USU Faculty of Agriculture, Professor Elisa Julianti.

In his speech, Hoeffelman said that this synergistic collaboration was in line with Regal Springs Indonesia’s mission to develop human resources in improving the sustainable fishing industry. “This memorandum of understanding is a strategic basis for both parties. With support from USU’s Faculty of Agriculture, we are confident that we can achieve our common goals in advancing the fisheries and aquaculture sectors,» he explained.

For her part, Julianti commented: “This collaboration is an important step in strengthening collaboration between academia and industry».» We hope that this collaboration can make a real contribution to society and the environment,» said Elisa.

Several main aspects covered

As additional information, this Memorandum of Understanding covers several main aspects, including Human resource development involving students, lecturers and employees through various activities such as knowledge-sharing programs, lecturer and student research, apprenticeships, public lectures and mentoring.

Also, sustainable Integrated Fisheries and Aquaculture Development, through joint research in the fields of fisheries cultivation, aquaculture products, fisheries waste and disease management, as well as environmental issues such as lake water quality and environmental emissions.

Systems and Technology Development, which focuses on research and development of renewable and environmentally friendly technology, management and business that supports PT’s business sustainability. And, finally, community service through various activities that can provide direct or indirect benefits to the community.
