The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of Vietnam, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of China and the People’s Committee of Quang Ninh province co-chaired at Tuan Chau peninsula, Ha Long city, Quang Ninh, the ceremony for the release of breeding to regenerate aquatic resources in the coastal area of the Gulf of Tonkin in 2022.
According to the plan, in 2022, Vietnam will release more than 53 million fish and 150,000 kg of aquatic breeds into natural waters to regenerate aquatic resources, including many endangered and rare aquatic species with economic value such as Tra squirrel fish, beaded trout, yellow bream, trout, snapper, black dot grouper, black tiger shrimp, blue crab, etc. Particularly in the first four months of 2022, Vietnam has released a total of more than 36 million fish and 60,000 kg of aquatic breeds of all kinds.
Due to regulations on the prevention of the covid-19 epidemic, the Vietnamese and Chinese sides agreed to attend in the form of a video-recorded speech at the ceremony, with a speech by Ma Huu Tuong, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of China, and of Quoc and Hy Tue, Charge d’Affaires of the Chinese Embassy in Vietnam.
Coordinated action since 2017
Breeding to regenerate aquatic resources in the Gulf of Tonkin is within the framework of the Memorandum of Understanding on implementation of cooperation in stocking and protection of aquatic resources in the Gulf of Tonkin signed between the Vietnamese and Chinese Ministers, on the occasion of Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong’s visit to China in 2017. Since then, the two sides have coordinated to organize successful four times of joint stocking activities in the Gulf of Tonkin.
Speaking at the ceremony, Phung Duc Tien – Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development of Vietnam said that due to the influence of the Covid epidemic situation, 2022 is the first year the two sides jointly organize the stocking ceremony and reproducing aquatic resources at the same time in the waters of the Gulf of Tonkin of each country. This shows that despite being affected by the Covid pandemic, the spirit of cooperation and exchange between the Ministry’s as well as of the people of the two countries, still continues. continue to be maintained, consolidated and developed.
Develop a specific implementation plan
On this occasion, Deputy Minister Phung Duc Tien proposed that the two countries’ authorities continue to have joint cooperation activities in the field of protection and regeneration of aquatic resources in order to protect and restore common aquatic resources in the region.
Gulf of Tonkin as well as in the field of agriculture and fisheries; assign the agency responsible for the implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding of the two sides to summarize and evaluate the results of the implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding for the period 2017-2019 and 2020-2022, and develop a specific implementation plan.
At this year’s ceremony, participants released more than 8 million aquatic breeds with economic value, including: tiger shrimp, blue crab, grouper, sea bass prepared from the budget of the company China – Asia Cooperation Fund to the coastal area of the Gulf of Tonkin.
This is one of the activities contributing to the restoration and regeneration of aquatic resources and the development of fisheries in the Gulf of Tonkin region; at the same time, tighten the friendly cooperation relationship, the good tradition of the two ministries and the people of the Vietnam and China.
Vietnam’s fisheries development strategy to 2030 with a vision to 2050 has determined that additional stocking, regeneration and development of aquatic resources must be respected and implemented regularly throughout the country and extensively socialized.
Important contribution to restore resources
Every year, stocking activities to regenerate aquatic resources are organized by localities, focusing on days such as Traditional Fisheries Day, World Environment Day, Vu Lan festival, Buddha’s birthday, making an important contribution to restore fishery resources that have been and are being over-exploited. This activity always receives the attention, participation, support and active response of all levels of government from the central to local levels.
Following the success of the Memorandum of Understanding for the period of 2017-2020, dated December 20, 2021, The Directorate of Fisheries under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of Vietnam signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Central Committee of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha in the field of releasing, regenerating and developing aquatic resources in the 2021 period. -2025.
The coordination with the Central Committee of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha has contributed to mobilizing socialization funds to promote the breeding of aquatic resources, creating a high consensus in the society and spreading the word. strongly spread to all classes of people throughout the country on the protection and regeneration of aquatic resources
