In which, aquaculture production is 271,257 tons, exceeding 6.7% of the plan, increasing by 5.01% over the same period; fishing output was 67,825 tons, reaching 93.68% of the plan, but marine fishing production increased by 1.34%.

Specifically, for brackish water shrimp, the stocking results for the whole year reached 53,000 hectares, exceeding 3.92% of the plan, up 2.49% over the same period, of which white leg shrimp 40,000 hectares and black tiger shrimp 13,000 ha; the area of intensive and semi-intensive shrimp farming accounted for 93.7%. The demand for brackish water shrimp seed stock is about 16,439.8 million seed (vannamei shrimp is estimated at 14,328.7 million varieties).

Estimated shrimp production by the end of the year will reach 189,746 tons, exceeding 6.06% of the plan and 17.07% higher than the same period last year. With specific productivity as follows: for vannamei shrimp, intensive farming of 5 tons/ha; for black tiger shrimp, improved form of extensive farming 1.1 tons/ha; semi-intensive form of 2.4 tons/ha; form of intensive farming 4.5 tons/ha.

The total area of freshwater aquaculture is 20,930ha, reaching 96.67% of the plan, down 8.8% compared to last year; estimated output reached 82,406 tons, exceeding 5% of the plan, down 18% compared to the previous year. The total area for other aquaculture is estimated at 2,600 hectares, exceeding 92% of the plan and the output is estimated at 1,700 tons.

In 2022, Soc Trang province strives for a total aquaculture area of 75,000 ha. In which, brackish water shrimp farming is 51,000 ha; freshwater aquaculture 21,410 ha and other aquaculture 2,590 ha.

Total seafood production reached 352,000 tons. In which, aquaculture production is 283,000 tons (branch water shrimp 196,000 tons, pangasius 13,500 tons, giant freshwater shrimp 6 tons, fish of all kinds 71,794 tons and other aquatic products 1,700 tons); fishing output 69,000 tons (marine fishing 63,500 tons and inland fishing 5,500 tons).

Tasks and solutions to increase the production

To strive to achieve that goals, Soc Trang province offers a number of specific key tasks and solutions. Among them is, regarding planning work, the aim is to accelerate the review of agricultural planning in Soc Trang province for the period of 2021-2030 with a vision to 2045; the project on agricultural and rural development; the structure of aquatic breeds; the investment in upgrading infrastructure for irrigation, transportation, and electricity in concentrated production areas.

Also, the province must to accelerate the implementation of programs and projects to develop brackish water shrimp farming in Soc Trang province in the 2021-2025 period and related tasks to ensure the effective implementation of the dual goals of economic development and disease prevention.

Other task is the reorganization of production. The intention is to concentrate small farming households together into cooperatives/cooperative groups in the direction of concentration and cooperating into large raw material production areas associated with enterprises providing input materials associated with the consumption market along the value chain.

In particular, special attention is paid to the coordination of parties (the state, producers, enterprises, associations), continuing to promote the role of cooperatives/cooperative groups in reorganizing production.

Continuing towards safe and responsible production according to VietGAP, GlobalGAP, ASC standards, etc. to improve product quality and meet the increasing requirements of the consumer market.

With regard to propaganda and transfer of science and technology, the intention is to constantly innovating in terms of form, content and methods of cooperation in science and technology transfer, application of information technology, social networks, websites, emails, newspapers, etc. for information to be transmitted and received feedback from people in the most timely and effective manner.

As well, to promote the replication of effective farming models; continue to support the development of models of raising new breeds with economic value; applying high-tech farming; diversifying farming, associated with ecological environment protection, climate change adaptation and cost reduction and production.

All that to enhance value and develop sustainably. Also, applying digital technology in management, setting up management software.

Inspection and inspection: strengthening this area in order to promptly prevent and strictly handle violations of the law on production and trading of goods that do not meet quality standards. Among other things, closely coordinating with relevant departments and branches in environmental control of shrimp farming areas, especially discharge and sludge pumping discharged to the outside environment.

Finally, the corresponding tasks for environmental monitoring and warning for epidemics. The goal is to continue to carry out monitoring and warning; implementing active and passive monitoring programs for diseases on shrimp seed, in farming areas and watershed channels, promptly notifying shrimp farming cooperatives and cooperatives so that farmers can proactively prevent diseases.
