Martín Cordero Ordóñez is the new General Manager of the joint venture GenoMar Genetics Colombia SA. Since last November, the Industrial Engineer with long experience in the production of tilapia has been working in the company with the responsibility for the operations from production to sales of genetically improved tilapia fingerlings in Colombia, under the brand GenoMar.
“I am looking forward to use my competence and commitment to build up the production facility to supply superior genetics to Colombian farmers. We plan to deliver the first batch of fingerlings by the end of 2022”, said Cordero to Aquaculture Magazine.
The new asset of GenoMar Genetics Colombia is an Industrial Engineer with a bachelor’s degree in Operations Management from the Latin American University of Science and Technology of Costa Rica.
Long experience in the production of tilapia
With more than 13 years of experience in the production of tilapia, Cordero has held various positions in important different companies in America Latina. He was Team Leader of the Tilapia Genetic Program, at AquaCorporación Internacional SA (Costa Rica) with the management of Aquainnovo SA and also in AquaPanamá (Panama) for the work of reproduction and rearing.
Aswell Cordero occupied a position as Production Manager at Acuícola La Selva SAC (Peru), where the main tasks were Project management in RAS systems to produce the Amazonian aquaculture species gamitana, and Management of innovation and quality improvement projects for tilapia production in Peru, within the framework of the PNIPA-World Bank program.
“In the past, Cordero also was Director of Logistics Projects at Correos de Costa Rica, a distribution service company.”
Cordero is an educated industrial engineer with a bachelor’s degree in Operations Management from the Latin American University of Science and Technology, Costa Rica.
Quick progress made by the Vietnamese team
A few weeks before, GenoMar Genetics Group the international aquaculture breeding and distribution company that is focusing on the global tilapia markets, achieved an important milestone by successfully shipping genetically improved fingerlings for the first time to a customer in the Hai Duong, province in northern Vietnam from its new production base in the Tay Ninh province, GenoMar Genetics Vietnam (GGV) “We are very impressed by the agility and execution capabilities of our Vietnamese team despite the challenges brought y covid-19”, says Alejandro Tola Alvarez, CEO at GenoMar Genetics Group.
“We imported Specific Pathogen Free (SPF) tilapia larvae parent stock from our nucleus facility in the Philippines in March 2021 and delivered the first fingerlings from the new site in August 2021. Having products in the market in such a short period of time reflects the tremendous effort the team has made to carry out our plans”, Alvarez adds.
