With a focus on sustainability and the possibilities of low-trophic species aquaculture, AquaVitae has released a promotional short film for the project’s work.

Information source: Aquavitae media release

The film outlines the role of the Atlantic Ocean as a shared food resource for coastal countries and the need to encourage sustainable forms of aquaculture, through the cultivation of low-trophic species or new processes such as Integrated Multi-trophic Aquaculture (IMTA). Algae or molluscs, for example, are organisms that belong to the lower levels of the food chain and, therefore, ensure a low environmental impact. Cultivation and consumption of low-trophic species can offer many benefits to society.

IMTA is a process that farms several species together using waste from one species as feed for another. AquaVitae researchers also work on cross-cutting activities involving biosensors, Internet of Things (IoT), product characteristics, market potential, environmental monitoring and risk assessments, analyses of value chains, and the policy framework.

With versions in English and Portuguese, for the Brazilian audience, the animated piece is available in the AquaVitae channel on YouTube. The audio-visual piece will be shown at congresses, workshops and meetings on both sides of the Atlantic Ocean.
