Information source: NAA press release
As the aquaculture industry expands throughout the world, genetic considerations have become more important in terms of production, sustainability and conservation. Unfortunately, producers and policy makers often perceive genetics as a complicated and intimidating topic. As a result, they may be reluctant to delve into the subject in spite of its increasing relevance. In this webinar the basic principles of genetic improvement as they relate to aquaculture will be explained in simple terms.
C. Greg Lutz is a Professor and Extension Specialist with the LSU AgCenter’s Aquaculture Research Station and School of Renewable Natural Resources. He is the author of the book Practical Genetics for Aquaculture. His career has included experience in research, teaching, Extension outreach and private industry, with a focus on hatchery and production practices. And although he has worked with numerous aquatic species in a number of countries, his favorite topic is still genetic improvement.
