The monitoring season spans from early May to late October/early November. To learn more and contribute to Billion Oyster Project as a community scientist, please subscribe to the Community Scientist newsletter.
Billion Oyster Project’s Oyster Research Station (ORS) program is a key component of our educational initiatives to engage students, teachers, schools, and community members in environmental restoration and stewardship at the water’s edge. Adopting an ORS involves managing an 8 x 8 x 18 inch cage, with ~300 oysters, and periodically collecting data on oyster growth, water quality, and biodiversity.
The first step in adopting an ORS is attending a training. Upcoming trainings are currently on hold due to COVID-19. But a lot of information is available online and may be useful during these hard times to learn and prepare for the upcoming activities of this project.
