The Urban Organics operation in St. Paul grew Arctic char and rainbow trout as well as salad greens in a former brewery. However, its finances didn’t make sense for the company, the newspaper reported. Some 27 employees will lose their jobs as a result of the closure.
“We continue to believe there is a long-term strategy for aquaponics in urban areas, however, the realization of the business model did not meet our expectations,” Pentair said in an email.
