The state Industrial Commission has approved an $83,000 Renewable Energy Program grant to Midwest Ag-Energy Group to produce a high value protein concentrate to feed carnivorous fish, like salmon and trout.
Instead of harvesting a large number of fish to turn into feed, Midwest Ag Energy Group will develop a high protein concentrate made of North Dakota grown barley.
The first phase of the project will provide a market analysis of protein feed ingredients in aquaculture and conduct an analysis of barley availability as a feedstock in the state.
